Beginning telp calls

You can star by asking the person who you want to speak to:

Formal :

·         Hello. Can/could I speak to ...., please?

·         Good morning. Can/could you put me through to..., please?

·         Good afternoon. Can/could you connect me to..., please?

Informal

·         Is ...there?

·         I want to speak to....

·         Please connect me to..

·         Please put me through to....

Asking for waiting/holding

·         Of course, just a moment please. I’ll check if he’s available

·         Okay. Please hold the line, I’ll put you trough to her now.

Telling someone isn’t available

Formal

·         I’m afraid he’s on another line/ his line is busy/ he’s not answering his phone

·         I’m sorry but she’s meeting a client/ in a meeting with…/ away from her desk/ out of the office/ out of the country/ flying to New York/ on a business trip/ not in today/

·         Sorry, he doesn’t work on Fridays

Leaving telephone message

Ending taking and leaving messages
